I often get requests to do tutorials and I usually wanna throw up a little when asked... Although I don't really consider this a full blown tutorial, I thought I'd show an exaggerated workflow, in this case from Daz Studio.
The first pic is a raw image straight from Daz. Not much thought went into the initial render, obviously. I would consider it an early test render at best. Light angles, pose and a fast render time was all that was necessary for me at this point.
Once inside Photoshop I can quickly adjust my lighting and color so it fits what I see in my mind (I was thinking 60's at the time) I will also paint in details and enhance specular lights or even add one. If I like what I'm seeing, I'll block in some hair that you'll see in the second image. It's still quite rough as I was testing a hairstyle and shape. Usually I render without hair as I find it easier just to paint it post.
Render time is 15 minutes with a couple hours post. I'd rather put my hours in post than to use a renderer that can take many hours or days to render something that still needs post work to make up for low detail modeling or bad textures.
